My Younger Sister

I had one of the best days of my life yesterday.

No, I didn't ride a shuttle to the moon. No, I didn't win the lottery and swim in wads of cash, and then went on a maniacal shopping spree and came back with loads of clothes and shoes and bags and make-up. (Sigh.)

But I spent the day with my boyfriend and his little four-year-old sister, and boy, was it the best! :D

Though I was excited to watch "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes" with Sam that day, what I was really looking forward to was painting Mira's nails and taking her out to City Park in Seremban 2.

When I met little Mira in church several weeks ago, it was actually my first time seeing her in 2 years. She was only 2 then, and rather shy around strangers. And before that, the last time I had seen her was when she was practically still a baby. I had carried her, talked baby-talk with her, but how could I blame her for not remembering? And it broke my heart a little, it did. :(

But that day in church, when she took an interest in the colour of my nail polish at the time and exclaimed that they matched the colour of her outfit (purple!) I knew, I just knew, I had found a soul mate. :D

All I've wanted to do, since then, was paint her nails, give her hair accessories and stuffed key chains, read her stories, and play with her pretty hair. :)

She is the most adorable little girl! And she has this cute warbly way of speaking that always makes me smile inside.

I wondered what it is about her that makes me want to dote on her, spoil her, make her laugh.

Sure, she is my boyfriend's sister, and it would certainly be in my best interests for her to like me. But I didn't want to do all these things to make her like me as her eldest brother's girlfriend. No, I felt like I finally had the little sister I'd never known, till now, that I wished I had. :)

Yesterday, I painted her nails for her. She chose the bright red that I had in my (relatively) small collection if nail lacquer. I helped her tie up her messy ponytail that had come loose. She loved the hair band I was wearing, so I gave it to her. She even gave me a high-five after I teased her brother. In the car, she sang Bruno Mars's "Lazy Song" in the most innocently adorable way imaginable! (It was her current favourite song :P)

She giggled and laughed as she played on the swing, the slides. She skipped and ran, and urged us to hurry up and catch her, and complained when we were too slow. She pointed excitedly at all the colourful fish in the lake and very seriously said that they sounded like fish. (LOL! :P) She exclaimed even more excitedly when we spotted the few tortoises that came to feed.

And each time her brother took out the camera, she would stop and pose, and I was re-convinced that I had really found a soul mate in her! xD

But the best moment of all, was when her brother offered his hand to walk her across the road to the park, and she took mine instead.

She chose to hold my hand. :)

Now that's an Awwwww moment if there ever was one! :D

In many ways, I love feeling like a big sister to this little girl. It fills me with joy :) But I have to say, taking Mira to the park with my boyfriend yesterday felt like we were taking our own daughter! xD

And seeing Sam with her, many times now, is heart-warming. He is great with her, and I can see that he completely adores her. Without intending to, I have a mental picture of him with our kids some day and, lucky me, it is a beautiful one. :)

Spending time with Mira has drawn us closer together, I dare say. And I can't wait to see Mira again. Sometimes I wonder if I miss Mira more than my boyfriend! xD

I haven't read stories to her, I haven't taught her to play the piano. But I am so thankful that I have plenty of time to do all that. I am so glad that I will be able to be close to her and see her grow :)

When I told Sam that I felt she was like my own younger sister, he told me, "She is your younger sister."

Why, yes. Yes, she is. :D
